5 things for the weekend 25.19
candied jalapeños, pultizer prize poetry, making zen, the overstory, music in james
Hello friends!
I am now fully over my cold, and feeling revived after a week of mostly resting. I can tell that the synapses in my brain are firing again, because not only am I inspired and full of ideas, I am also actually executing them.
Part of this is no doubt due to it being Spring, with more warmth and sunshine, not to mention flowers blooming everywhere.
I hope that wherever you are, you are finding things that are inspiring and motivating you to meet your dreams.
5 Things
1. Cowboy Candy? Apparently that’s what these candied jalapeños are called. We actually planted jalapeños last week, so I will be trying this! And I have it on good authority that they are being served during the Cowboy Carter Tour.
2. Listen to the poem Hymn, and watch an animated version from the Pulitzer Prize winning poet Mary Howe.
3. Get ready for the 2025 edition of Making Zen! I love this online summit all about slow and mindful stitching. It runs May 25th to 30th. and is completely free.
4. Several years ago my husband bought me a copy of The Overstory by Richard Powers on a whim. He didn’t know anything about it, he just thought I’d enjoy it. He was correct! It’s now one of my favourite books ever. And it’s the featured book on the Booker Prizes site this month.
5. There’s lots of press about James again, as it just won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. I was fascinated to read this essay all about the musical motifs included in the novel. I’ll be paying closer attention to things like this in the future!

I’m reading The Reformatory by Tananarive Due and thinking about how it’s in conversation with Sinners and Nickel Boys. I’m also making my first focaccia with some herbal infused honey I made.
Oooh I love it when different kinds of media/content are in conversation with each other
I've read Nickel Boys, so I think I will check out The Reformatory. Haven't seen Sinners (yet).
