5 things for the weekend 25.09
economic blackout activities, improve your social life, what to read this weekend, free shawl pattern, add this to your coffee
One of my goals for the 100 Day Project is to try to get things out of my head and on to paper. I have a constant running internal dialogue (something I found out that not everyone has!), but a lot of my thoughts and ideas never see the light of day.
I’m trying my best to get out of my head, and make things more concrete. Good ideas are useless if they remain just that, especially if they aren’t written down as a first step to making them happen - or at least seeing if they should become reality.
Less than one week in I am truly enjoying the process, not just with the arty aspect, but also with paying more attention to the fleeting thoughts in my mind.
It’s been a wonderful exercise in mindfulness and intention, and I can’t wait to see how this evolves over the rest of the project.
5 Things
1. February 28th is the scheduled day for the economic blackout in the US (and I bet people in other countries will be joining in.) If you’re partaking, here’s a list of 26 fun free things to do during the blackout and beyond!
2. In related news, here are seven ways to improve your social life extracted from The Social Biome: How Everyday Communication Connects and Shapes Us by Jeffrey Hall and Andy Merolla. The list includes a brief discussion on technological interactions. And needless to say suggestion number seven is my favourite!
3. Wondering what to read this weekend? Why not choose a book from the Women’s Prize 2024 Longlist? And keep an eye out for the 2025 announcement coming n week!
4. Snap up this very interesting plaid shawl pattern from Expression Fiber Arts while it’s free! I’m very intrigued by the way it’s constructed and finished.
5. I usually roll my eyes about click-baity titles like “the cheap 200-year old ingredient I add to my coffee” but the coffee bit got me! I’m glad I clicked over because I actually own said ingredient, and if you’re from the Caribbean, or have a well stocked bar you probably do too! (Okay that was kinda click-baity too, sorry!)

The things we do not know
The Persons of Prognostication Are coming now.
We try to sham becoming firmness,
But pompous joy Betrays us,

― Emily Dickinson

I would never have guessed Bitters for the coffee additive. Interesting! That shawl looks lovely but I would probably never add the stands after it is blocked lol. I only have one of those books from the Women's Prize list on my TBR. The first thing on the social life list...the introvert in me is like no thank you but I am all over number seven.
