5 things for the weekend 23.43
nyt best book, how to brew tea, deep reading, black cake, decor hack
Last night the 14 year old said “I can’t believe it’s December already!” and I said “Same, kid, same.” While it’s my favourite time of year (after summer), it’s also the time when I start to seriously look back on the past 11 months, and evaluate. I’m guessing most of us do. So this month look out for notes from me on all that entails, whether it’s personal goals, business success, choosing a word for next year, or deciding what our creative life will look like in 2024. It’s definitely a journaling heavy month!
Remember, as a special offer all Journal Your Word e-mails will be sent to all subscribers, including a preview of the new features.
What are your thoughts turning to right now?
5 Things
1. The New York Times has released their 10 best Books of 2023 - five are fiction, and five are non-fiction. Do you have any on your TBR?
2. ‘Tis the season to drink tea, and if you want to raise it to an art read this about how to brew tea.
3. Maryanne Wolf is a researcher and scholar at U.C.L.A.’s School of Education and Information Studies who believes that our ability to truly deeply read, not just scroll, hangs in the balance. Hear her discuss this with Ezra Klein.
4. Have you read Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson, and are wondering about this very traditional Christmas (and wedding) fare? Find out about the very best of Black Cake (although all the other islands would argue with the Trinis!)
5.I absolutely positively will be trying this Christmas decor hack.
