5 things for the weekend 23.36
gift ideas, the art of seeing, soup season, lakou consciousness, planning circle
I have been a busy little bee working on knitted gifts to give this year. I’m all organised about it (of course). I made sure to separate out the yarn that I’m using, and keep them handy in a basket in my knitting space in the sitting room, so when I want to continue or start a project, I don’t have to be running to my main yarn stash to find what I need. Whether you’re knitting, sewing, paper crafting, or painting gifts this year, you can be organised by gathering your supplies and having them accessible.
What gifts are you making this year?
5 Things
1. If you’re familiar (or even if you’re not) with Georgia O’Keefe’s flower paintings. you’ll enjoy this one from the Marginalian on why she painted them the way she did, and her thoughts on the art of seeing.
2. Handmade soap bars would make excellent gifts this season, and this list of 20 creative soapmaking materials will bring your bars up a notch!
3. It’s soup season! Finally. Let’s try this golden lentils and spinach soup with cumin and turmeric.
4. Are you working on diversifying your reading list? The Overthink Podcast talks with Myriam Chancy about why reading books from Africa and the African Diaspora should be done with “lakou consciousness”. (Also, as a confirmed overthinker I hit follow on the podcast so hard!)
5. Speaking of gift giving, the knitters among us will appreciate this free pattern for a striped cowl made using fingering scraps. It’s free until October 24th with the code SIMPLYSCRAPPY23. That’s some prime TV knitting time there!
