5 things for the weekend 23.34
octopus intelligence, creativity and discipline, quick "lasagna", booker prize, the pandemic skip
This past week I have been reflecting on how much I enjoyed hanging out with the crowd at Epigraph Lit Fest last week, talking about crafts, planning and the Holidays. Which is crazy because I am a total introvert, and was fairly stressed about doing the live session (even though this is the third time I’ve run it). But it confirms what I have suspected: that when I’m in my comfort zone you can’t get me to shut up! It’s why one of the benefits in my community is monthly co-working sessions where we can chat about what we’re working on together. And to get a taste, join me in my Saturday Lives on Instagram!
5 Things
1. I loved reading about Jeanne Villepreux-Power, a 19th century French dressmaker who laid the groundwork for the study of octopus intelligence.
2. Hrishikesh Hirway (Netflix’s Song Exploder), talks about finding creativity and discipline in his remote work, but any creative who works independently will find inspiration and tips for both.
3. Should you read the 2023 Booker Shortlist? The judges of the award explain why you definitely should. I certainly have a couple on my TBR, and plan to start with if I Survive You by Jonathan Escoffery.
4. Feeling like lasagna but don’t have time to make it fully from scratch? Try this mini (and healthier) version in a loaf pan using zucchini.
5. This summer in pretty much every conversation with family and friends we talked about the “missing years” due to Covid. This article on The Cut discusses what they are calling the pandemic skip.
