5 things for the weekend 23.26
hamilton singalong, chicken bruschetta, get out of a rut, workspace tour
With our family vacation imminent, I am looking forward to a nice period of time where my motto above will be my main reality: crafting, reading, (with making art instead of knowing things). My biggest challenge at the moment is finding the balance between taking enough supplies and books so I can happily pursue my passions when the urge hits, and not overloading myself with way too much. We’re flying this year, so that means that I have to be very strict to not go over my weight limit. Everything I have learnt about keeping it simple will be pulled into play!
Do you take along craft supplies and books when you travel? What tips do you have for me?
5 Things
1. Sit back and enjoy this video of Colson Whitehead answering the Proust Questionnaire. What questionnaire is that, you ask? Find out here.
2. Are you stuck in a rut? (Defined as a habit or pattern of behavior that has become dull and unproductive but is hard to change.) Here are 16 ideas to get out of it.
3. Hamilton fans! Disney+ has released a sing-along version of the musical phenomenon!
4. This chicken bruschetta recipe is an excellent choice if you’re trying to reduce carbs or avoid gluten.
5. I love seeing the workspaces of other creatives, even if virtually, because I always find an idea or two for organisation or decoration. I’ve followed The Postman’s Knock for several years now, and I loved getting this tour of her studio.
I am:
Reading: The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster

What are you doING?
“If you stuff yourself full of poems, essays, plays, stories, novels, films, comic strips, magazines, music, you automatically explode every morning like Old Faithful.”
― Ray Bradbury
Hi there! I just joined up from seeing you on a feature in a different Substack (Peachy Keen) and this is kismet because I am both a flight attendant, AND I travel a lot using my benefits. I sincerely feel your dilemma and this is how I have solved it. I bring two books (three if they are all smaller paperbacks). The books that I bring are ones that, once I am finished, I intend to give them away. I often give books to my Flight Attendants (when I am traveling for fun). If they don’t want them, I ask them to take them to their crew lounge so that someone else has an opportunity to read it. I also am known to exchange books with another passenger who is sitting next to me on the flight, or in the airport as we wait. As I finish and pass my books along, I hit a local bookshop wherever I am going and buy more 😊. That’s how I do books. As far as crafts, I am so new that I honestly have no idea what your craft set up looks like...I am a crocheter, cross-stitcher, mandala maker, and I do some bead work. When I leave on vacation, I usually bring an epic cross-stitch, or some pens (markers, pencils, basically one small case of drawing stuff) and a medium pad of paper, or bead stuff to do one or two malas . The thing is, I usually NEVER have time to craft. I rarely get to touch it at all ☹️. But that might be how I set up my vacations by packing in a million things to do and making sure to be a present as possible with my people. I still bring the craft stuff though, because you never know when a rainy day will derail your plans 😊. I hope that helps and I am looking forward to your Substack. I started a knit/crochet/fiber arts group in my little town with the intention of creating community and completing projects ❤️. We celebrate when someone completes something because it is a big deal and we all know how hard that person worked ❤️🎉
