5 things for the weekend 23.21
chickpea curry, letters to young readers, studio uniform. book club meeting
June is gearing up to be a busy month here! I’m running the Craft Nerdiness Challenge for the second year in a row, plus it’s read Caribbean month, so I have a nice stack of Caribbean Lit to read (plus more on my Kindle). After an iffy start to Spring, temperatures here are heating up, so that means I’ll be happily pottering around the garden as well. This is truly my favourite time of year!
This month in Journal Your Word, we’re committing to being consistent, and my focus will be on showing up consistently, as in my face, in my photos and reels. While I’m more comfortable in front of the camera these days, as an introvert that kind of thing drains my energy, so I will be sure to balance it with things that fill my cup: hence all the reading, gardening, and of course making!
Are you trying to work consistently on a habit this month?
5 Things
1. Artists and crafters, have you ever considered having a “studio uniform?” or maybe you already do? I find the idea as discussed here, intriguing.
2. How do you feel about restaurant menus being QR codes? I think they became popular during the pandemic, and I definitely see the utility at that time, but I absolutely prefer using a paper menu. It seems that many people agree.
3. It’s salad weather! But that won’t stop me from trying this delicious sounding Chana Saag or chickpea spinach curry.
4.I’ll definitely be adding this memoir by Rebeca Solnit, which speaks to children (and adults!) about the importance of reading. Read an excerpt, and peek at some of the lovely illustrations.
5. If you’re a memory keeper, you are no doubt taking photos all day every day, but now in the Northern hemisphere we are coming up on peak photo taking season! Sometimes if we’re taking a photo on the fly it’s not the best capture, but Ali Edwards talks here about how even imperfect captures can still be documented.
