5 things for the weekend 23.19
one for the wordlers, rainbow dyeing, chicken shwarma, 30 days of craft nerdiness challenge
May in France is an crazy month with no less than four bank holidays. It’s an interesting time. It can be destabilising, as all routines are upended, and everyone is in a festive mood, many heading off on long weekend jaunts. I’ve learnt that the best approach is to go with the flow, to know that nothing will work the way it usually does (stores may be closed when you least expect it), and even schools will have the day off on Friday to “make the bridge” when a holiday falling on Thursday.
Another reason that I embrace it is because it’s my birthday month, and so it feels like the entire country is celebrating with me all month long! Gotta find that silver lining.
5 Things
1. Are you a Wordler? Have you ever wondered why English is the best language for the game? The Grammar Girl explores this and more in a recent podcast interview, which she claims got her playing the game again.
2. Maria Popova of The Marginalian examines four Buddhist mantras for turning fear into love. Throughout the piece she also shares related books, and works of art.
3. If you’ve always wanted to learn to crochet, or if you already do, but need to jumpstart again, sign up for The Crochet Academy from TL Yarn Crafts. Beginners can access tutorials to get started with crochet and follow a seven week program, and others can jump in the 4 week long crochet along (CAL) which starts May 22nd.
4. Watching this recipe video made my mouth water, and I will be adding this easy chicken shawarma to my meal plan ASAP. The video caption has the full list of the ingredients you will need.
5. After a washing oopsie where my market bag turned out pale green, I’ve been wondering how to fix it, so I was happy to come across this tutorial for rainbow dyeing market bags. Time to purchase some dye!

“I knew that not all lives are equal, that the time we live in affects the person we are, more than I had ever thought. Some have a harder chance. Some get no chance at all. With great sadness, I saw so many people born in the wrong time to be happy.”
― Andrew Sean Greer, The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells
