5 things for the weekend 23.07
african-american classics, jock nerd prep or goth, the 100 day project, maple pork chops
Winter break is winding down over here, and it has been splendid. We were blessed with lots of warm sunny days, which is always a treasure in February. I read recently that a healthy society is one that understands the importance of rest, and builds in that time before people get tired. I think the French school system definitely knocked it out of the park with their mid-week break, and four two week long breaks during the school year.
As usual, I had a long list of projects that I wanted to knock-off, but instead found myself, taking it slow, reading, knitting, napping, enjoying family time, and mostly resting off, while doing a few essential things. It was well worth it!
5 Things
1. One of the Read Soul Lit challenge prompts so far was Classic Lit. I posted The Blacker the Berry by Wallace Thurman, The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin, and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, all of which I highly recommend. If you’re looking for more African-American classics, Henry Louis Gates Jr weighs in on what he considers meets this criteria.
2. A quick and delicious one-pan meal Maple Porkchops with Carrots was a hit this week. I added sweet potato chunks mixed in with the carrots.
3. How is your reading for February so far? keep motivated, or mix it up a bit by playing Bookish Bingo.
4. Jock, Nerd, Prep, or Goth? Take this fun alignment test that shows where you land related to pop culture. I got Total nerd, which I am sure surprises no-one!😁
5. Is blogging dead? Personal blogging that is. Remember those days, when we connected to people by reading about their lives? Monique Judge makes the case for bringing it back.
I am:
Reading: Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead
Listening: Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
Watching: Harlem
Making: Sunday Cardigan

The 100 Day Project starts next week, Wednesday February 22nd, and I am gearing up. I wanted to do an artistic project this year, and my idea is to design an imaginary world! I’m pretty excited by this, as I am constantly amazed at the world building I see in my favourite fantasy, sci-fi, and magical realism books. Are you doing the project?
