5 things for the weekend 23.03
book trackers, decluttering, handstitched book, word of the year, modern makers
In addition to all my usual reading plans for the year, I have also made a reading list of books to read that support my word of the year. Some of these, like Big Magic and Flow, are re-reads, and others have been on my TBR shelf for a while. I might add a few fiction titles to round the list out to twelve, but these nine are my priority. I’ll be starting with Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert on audio. I highly recommend this book for creatives of any ilk.
Are there any books you’ll be reading to support your word this year?
Making a reading list for your word is one of the things we are exploring in the Journal Your Word workshop. Get this and other resources when you upgrade to a paid subscription.
5 Things
1. Decluttering is high on my list this year once again. There are certain areas that I know will benefit from trying this 3-step process that’s somewhat untraditional.
2. If you keep a book journal, or track books in your bullet journal, here is a round-up of a variety of simple and creative layouts.
3. Be more appreciative of the change of seasons with this free mini-course on the art of wintering.
4. I take my lunches to work twice a week, and always try to make simple but tasty meals. This chicken and spinach dish hit the spot!
5. Join Ann Wood for the one hundred day stitch project which starts today January 20th. This is a meditative community project of stitching “pages” to make a completely handstitched book.

What are you DoING?
The Modern Makers Membership
Does this sound like you?
“Lately I am overwhelmed by the sheer volume of stuff I am bringing in, like scrapbooking or planner kits, and all the content out there. It feels like I don’t get a chance to use or even appreciate a kit, before another one arrives. I am struggling to figure out how to deal with it all”
I hear things like this a lot from creative people. Heck, I used to feel this way too, and sometimes still suffer from chasing after shiny objects. In January especially there are so many new things to consider signing up for. That’s why I created the Modern Makers membership program. It helps you to prioritise what you really want to be working on, and to finally put all those supplies and skills to use! It’s based on my personal experience, and shows you how to implement the crafting systems and planning methods that I have developed over the last several years.
“Humans are the only species who subvert truth for their own entertainment. They call them jokes. Sometimes puns.”
― Shelby Van Pelt, Remarkably Bright Creatures
Definitely bookmarking the decluttering article as I need to do that after being in this house for 3 1/2 years. Where does it all come from 😂!
