5 things for the weekend 22.7
small fiber makes, time-saving appliances, virtual book clubs, red velvet cake
This year for The 100 Day Project (which began on Sunday), I am doing 100 Days of Small Fiber Makes. I have always done a strict art project, but I wanted to try something different this year - especially since I haven’t managed to complete the project for the last three years.
So I am pulling out all my neglected yarn, and working on things like bookmarks, washcloths, fingerless mittens, in both knit and crochet. I’ll also throw some embroidery and weaving into the mix. I work on a project as long as I can, the goal isn’t to have a completed item every day, just to work on something every day. I am also not trying to post to social media daily, just on the days that it makes sense.
Simplifying my project like this has taken a lot of the pressure off, and I have been enjoying those mindful moments of creation every day so far. It’s never too late to start this project, so if you’re tempted and have an idea, I say go for it!
5 Things
1. Intrigued by papercutting? Amy Maricle has a free class up that will help you begin. Looks like a great weekend project.
2. It’s still a great time to make a red velvet cake. This one claims to be the best.
3. if there’s one thing that I am glad came out of the pandemic it’s my online book club meetings via Zoom or Messenger. Christopher Frizzle feels the same way.
4. Do time saving appliances really save us time and labour? That’s what the egg beater theory examines.
5. Spend a Sunday with Marlon James, author of Black leopard, Red Wolf.
