5 things for the weekend 22.33
finding joy, food memoirs, start your christmas cards, decorate plates
This month has been pretty hectic. I’m starting my part-time teaching job in October, so I have been using September to set up everything home and business related, so that things work as smoothly as possible during the times I’m not available. On top of which, my husband injured his right shoulder, and can’t use his arm, so my to-do list essentially doubled. While rushing around outdoors I spied a patch of crocus peeping up. I see them every year, but always forget about them. I stopped in my tracks and, bent down to get closer, and just enjoyed how bright and cheerful they were. Then decided I needed to keep that feeling, so I plucked a few to keep on my desk in a jam jar (actually if you look closely at the base, I think it’s a honey jar). These are the moments that bring bits of joy in my day, and remind me that life is good.
5 Things
1. If you don’t have a lot of space for garden beds, or flowers, you can still enjoy a small garden by making a vertical hanger for pots of succulents. It’s a nice way to add an accent to a patio or balcony wall.
2. Food memoirs are one of my favourite kinds of non-fiction because you can learn a lot about the author as well as various cultures. Here’s a list of five essential food memoirs.
3. Have you got some of those laminate Ikea furniture pieces that you’ve just decided to live with because they can’t be painted? Well Rachel at The Crafted Life has figured out the process to perfectly update those pieces with paint.
4. In my quest to eat more vegetables and less carbs, I’ve discovered how good green beans can be. And surprisingly how many ways they can be prepared. I plan to try this InstantPot version soon.
5. Dinner plates are something that are easily found at thrift and odd lot stores, and there are so many ways to use them! With the holidays approaching, you might want to try some of these ideas for both decorative and food use.
